Description

Acharya Prashant addresses a question regarding the classification of love into different levels such as affection for the young, love for equals, and faith or devotion for superiors and the divine. He explains that these divisions are not fundamental but are merely pedagogical tools used to explain concepts. The mind is characterized by movement, driven either by attraction or aversion. While one can categorize these movements based on age or object, such as distinguishing between affection for a child and devotion to a God, these are superficial distinctions. He emphasizes that instead of focusing on these divisions, one should seek the underlying unity or the common thread that connects all these movements. Just as different beads are held together by a single invisible thread, all human desires and actions, whether directed toward worldly objects or spiritual goals, stem from a singular inner thirst for peace and fulfillment. He further clarifies that the perceived differences between terms like faith, trust, and devotion are often just linguistic traps. He advises against getting entangled in wordplay, noting that from one perspective it may look like faith and from another like devotion, but the essence remains the same. Regarding the quest to 'find' a Guru, Acharya Prashant suggests a shift in perspective. He asserts that one does not find a Guru through specific methods or efforts. Instead, the seeker should focus on being receptive and not resisting when the Guru finds them. He compares this to the divine respect for human freedom; if one struggles or resists too much, the opportunity for connection is lost because true love and spiritual union cannot be forced. The essential task is to remain still and not flee when the moment of connection occurs.
