Acharya Prashant explains that whenever the question 'What should I do?' arises in the mind, regardless of the context—whether it's about getting a new car, building a new house, or a child's education—the approach should be understood carefully. The solution is not to do something new, but to pay close attention to what one is already doing. To illustrate this, he uses the analogy of a blindfolded person. This person is stumbling and walking crookedly. If they ask, 'What should I do?', and someone suggests they go left instead of right, it won't help. They were stumbling while going right, and they will continue to stumble while going left. The new action is not fundamentally different from the old one because the doer has not changed. The person doing the action remains the same. Therefore, whenever you face a problem and the question 'What should I do?' arises, the answer is not to do something new, because you are currently incapable of doing anything truly new. It may seem like a new action, but it won't be. The right thing to do is to stop and ask, 'Why am I stumbling?' or 'What am I doing right now?' By repeatedly paying attention to why you are stumbling, your hand will automatically go to the blindfold and remove it. The action that follows will be genuinely new, and the stumbling will stop. Asking 'What should I do?' is a temptation to find a new remedy without addressing the root cause. Since you are already doing something, that is why the problem exists. Instead of asking what new thing to do, you should see what you are currently doing and why it is going wrong. The problem is with the doer. Until there is a change in you, the fundamental quality of your actions will not improve. One must go to the root of the problem and not run away from it. You are the problem, and wherever you go, you will carry the problem with you.
