Description

Acharya Prashant discusses the spiritual significance of Kabir Saheb's teachings regarding the 'poet' and the 'shaven-headed.' He explains that there are two types of people who are spiritually ineffective: those who blindly follow social customs and rituals (the shaven-headed) and those who are slaves to their own imagination and ego (the poets). The poet is considered more dangerous because he believes his thoughts and desires are his own, failing to realize they are products of external influences. Both remain bound—one by social decorum and the other by the mind—and neither knows true liberation. He further elaborates on the metaphor of 'shaving the mind.' Just as hair serves as a biological tool for protection, attraction, and creating a false sense of size, the mind's 'hair' represents its projections, ambitions, and reactions to the world. A mind that is 'shaven' is one that has become barren to worldly desires and sensory attractions. Such a mind is like an inert gas; it does not react to external stimuli and remains established in the Truth. It no longer seeks to expand or project a false image to the world. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that one should only seek the company of those who have 'shaven their minds.' He warns that most people surround themselves with individuals whose minds are constantly flickering and restless. If one seeks shelter with those who are themselves helpless and driven by desires, they will only find disappointment. To find a truly liberated person, one must first change their own perspective and criteria for association, as a restless mind will never find a peaceful companion attractive.
