Description

Acharya Prashant explains that language possesses a miraculous power because a person is not just the speaker of their words but also the primary listener. He compares human speech to rumination in animals, where what is inside comes out as words and then goes back inside through hearing. By changing one's language and introducing cleanliness and freshness into speech, one can effectively change the mind. He notes that ancient sages understood this, which is why they insisted on learning the specific language of scriptures before studying them, rather than relying on translations that keep the seeker rooted in their old linguistic habits. He warns that using foul language or lies primarily harms the speaker by habituating their own ears to negativity, making them resistant to truth and spiritual wisdom later on. He further clarifies that spiritual practices like chants, hymns, and prayers are not for the benefit or pleasure of a divine entity, as the divine is indifferent to such acts. Instead, these practices are for the self; the speaker is the one who hears and is transformed by them. If one consumes stimulating, deluded, or worldly content all day, their ears become like a spoiled palate that rejects the 'wholesome food' of spiritual verses like those of the Bhagavad Gita. He emphasizes that the Gita is not an isolated event but a continuity, like a river flowing from the mountain to the sea. He describes the spiritual gathering as a 'ghat' (a bank or entry point), explaining that while a teacher can help one descend into the river, the student must ensure the river of their own life has not run dry through poor conduct and speech during the rest of the day.
