Acharya Prashant explains the relationship between truth and utility in spiritual practice, using the analogy of a mother asking her child to draw a line on a wall to remember her. While the memory of the mother is the essential truth, the physical line serves as a necessary tool for the senses to grasp and maintain that memory. He posits that spirituality is divided into truth and utility, and the role of a Guru is to bridge the two. Pure truth, like pure gold, is often too soft or abstract to be useful in daily life; therefore, a Guru must introduce a certain level of 'impurity' or practical application to make the truth accessible and effective for the seeker.
