Description

Acharya Prashant explains the profound meaning behind Kabir Saheb's teaching that begging is equivalent to death. He clarifies that for an ordinary person, begging is driven by specific desires and a sense of lack, which stems from the ego and a feeling of separation from existence. When one feels separate, they create boundaries of 'mine' and 'thine,' leading to the necessity of asking for permission or begging. In contrast, a true monk or a child does not 'beg' in the traditional sense; they exist in a state of oneness with nature, much like an animal drinking from a river or a tree drawing nutrients from the earth. For them, receiving is a natural process of existence where the provider and the receiver are part of the same system. The speaker emphasizes that the sense of ownership is a delusion. He cites the example of indigenous tribes who found the concept of private land ownership absurd, arguing that if air, light, and water cannot be owned, neither can the earth. Acharya Prashant asserts that the ego's desire to possess personal property and exclusive relationships leads to isolation and the 'punishment' of needing permission to access the rest of the world. He warns that refusing to ask out of pride is just another form of deep-seated ego. True living involves taking what is needed with the innocence of a child and the realization that everything belongs to the whole. One should not beg out of a sense of separation but should receive from existence with love and the understanding that there is no 'other.'
