Description

Acharya Prashant explains that a large ego is beneficial because its foundation is peace. He distinguishes between a small, limited ego and a large, universal ego. A small ego is dangerous because it creates boundaries, identifying only with a few people or personal property, which leads to violence, greed, and suffering. In contrast, a large ego, represented by the statement 'I am Brahman,' encompasses everything and leaves no room for the feeling of 'otherness.' When one feels that no one is a stranger, fear disappears, and a natural state of ease is achieved. Alternatively, one can adopt a state of 'zero ego,' where one identifies as nothing. Both extremes—being everything or being nothing—lead to liberation, but remaining in the middle as a limited identity causes pain. He further discusses the role of logic and reasoning, stating that logic itself is neither good nor bad; its value depends on its source. If logic arises from a peaceful heart and truth, it is beneficial. However, if it is driven by fear, doubt, or ego, it becomes poisonous. He advises that instead of analyzing the logic itself, one should observe the state of the person delivering it. A person who is internally disturbed will produce harmful arguments, even if they appear intelligent. To avoid being deceived by others' superficial appearances, one must live deeply within oneself. Only by living from the heart can one see through the surface-level calm of others and recognize their true internal state.
