Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the misconception that the soul is inside the body. He explains that one must first understand time and space. Anything that exists in space is an extension of the mind. Therefore, when speaking of Truth, one must check if the statement involves concepts like extension, space, or place. If it does, it should not be associated with the Truth. He refutes the idea of the soul being inside the body, as the body itself is space, and the soul cannot be contained within it. The speaker clarifies that the ego (ahankar) finds comfort in the idea of the soul being within because the ego is attached to the body, making it feel as though it contains the soul. He asserts that those who spread this notion are either ignorant or deceitful. He introduces a metaphysical model: the Truth is a point (bindu), the vibration of which is the mind. The expansion of the mind is what we call time, the sky (akash), or extension (vistaar). The soul is not found in this expansion but in the dissolution or contraction of time and space. Acharya Prashant states that the soul has no connection to the body. The body is space, so how can the soul enter it? He uses the analogy of a genie in a bottle to illustrate the absurdity of containing the limitless soul within the limited body. He explains that the ego is what is separate and takes on a body and limits. The soul, being limitless, cannot be multiple; there is only one soul, which is the source, also known as Brahman. The correct understanding, which is the language of surrender, is that the world is in the soul, not that the soul is in the world. He further explains that as one becomes more absorbed in the Truth, they become less concerned with the specifics and details of the world. Forgetting these details is another name for nirvana. The more agitated the mind, the more it clings to specifics, names, and forms. The only method to realize this is moment-to-moment attention (tatkshan dhyan). One must be awake to what is, without running from facts or giving shelter to lies. Freedom from time and space is essentially freedom from yourself.
