Description

Acharya Prashant explains that Prakriti is the freedom of Brahman. Brahman, being absolutely free, is free even to express itself in a dualistic way. This dualistic expression is Prakriti. While Brahman is non-dual, Prakriti is another name for duality. Prakriti has two ends: at one end is the perceiver, and at the other is the perceived environment, objects, or the universe. The knower of Prakriti is actually inside Prakriti. Brahman is not even a knower, as knowledge in material terms is dualistic, requiring an object to be known. Since Brahman is non-dual, it has no object to perceive or know. Within Prakriti, there is an unending game of the seer and the seen, the experiencer and the experienced, the attracted one and the object of attraction. This entire game is within Prakriti. At one end of this game sits the 'I', the ego-self. At the other end is everything that makes it possible for the 'I' to survive, exist, and have a meaning. Without the other end, the 'I' would have no identity, or at best, a fractured and untenable one. The 'I' that exists at one end of Prakriti says, "I am," and the other end provides the name and meaning to this "I am," which is the ego-self. The speaker clarifies that this entire setup, the material world, exists for the sake of the 'I's enjoyment and liberation. Enjoyment here does not mean pleasure, but the capacity to bring one to joy, and liberation is the reward for playing the game wisely. The universe should bring you to a joy that liberates you from the universe itself. You have been given both an adverse condition (a prison) and a key or a map to find your way out, which is the intellect. The purpose of the intellect is not to enhance the ego-self but to wisely find what leads to the joy of liberation. An intellectual is one who uses their intellect for the sole purpose of liberation. Most people either don't use their intellect or misuse it to enhance their ego, which is not an intellectual motive at all.
