Description

Acharya Prashant explains that questions regarding the nature of the Buddha or the Divine are often fundamentally flawed because they treat the transcendental as a material object. When a seeker asked the Zen master Tozan, "What is the Buddha?" and received the reply "three pounds of flax," it was a direct attempt to shake the seeker out of their ignorance. The speaker clarifies that terms like 'what', 'where', and 'how' apply only to matter—that which is projected by the senses. The Divine, being beyond time, space, and the senses, cannot be localized or quantified. Asking about the location or weight of the Divine is as nonsensical as asking for the weight of the color yellow. Such questions attempt to imprison the infinite within the boundaries of material definitions.
