Description

Acharya Prashant responds to a question about the life of volunteers in his organization. He first addresses their financial situation, stating that all volunteers are financially self-reliant because their expenses are minimal. He explains that spirituality provides the intelligence to avoid the major expenses common in society, such as chasing brands or spending on weekend entertainment like alcohol and partying. With these expenses eliminated, even an average income is sufficient for self-reliance. While money is necessary for essentials like clothing and travel, which everyone has, it does not hold the same importance as it does for a typical employee. The foundation operates as a complete family, serving people globally while also caring for its internal members. If a medical emergency or any other significant expense arises, the foundation takes responsibility. Acharya Prashant notes that he cannot recall any volunteer asking for money in many years; in fact, he sometimes has to encourage them to earn more. He contrasts this with corporate environments, where employees often demand salary increases, whereas some volunteers here forget about their paychecks for months and need to be reminded. Regarding the nature of their commitment, he describes it as a voluntary battle and a matter of love, free from compulsion. The doors are always open for anyone to join or leave, without formal procedures like offer or resignation letters. He observes that those who do leave often return within a few months. On the subject of self-perception, he says the volunteers are different from the world. Although they have their flaws, they are too engrossed in their important and demanding work, which includes counseling people day and night, to have time for feelings of inferiority or superiority. The atmosphere is one of "bekhudi" (carelessness) and "befikri" (freedom from worry), a state of being far removed from the anxieties of ordinary homes and corporations. They are content with simple living, such as sleeping on the floor or wearing un-ironed clothes, as these are not their primary concerns.
