Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human suffering arises from forgetting that one is consciousness rather than just the body. He notes that the body has its own agendas, such as sleeping, eating, or procreating, but as consciousness, an individual is not obliged to concur with these physical demands. When one recognizes themselves as consciousness, they begin to see that same essence in others, such as in the eyes of a rabbit. Although the rabbit's desires might be simpler, like wanting a carrot, the underlying characteristic of desire and the will to live is the same as in a human. Therefore, hurting or killing another being is equivalent to hurting or killing a part of oneself. Acharya Prashant observes that while this perspective has influenced some chronic meat eaters to change, the overall treatment of animals in India is deteriorating. He points out that the vegetarian population in India has dropped to less than thirty percent, leading to increased violence and insensitivity toward animals, particularly among the youth.
