Description

Acharya Prashant explains that while the external appearance and methods of a Buddha would change in the modern world, the core characteristics remain eternal. A Buddha is someone well-versed in the knowledge of their time and deeply interested in understanding the depths of life beyond superficial levels. This is illustrated by the story of Gautam Buddha, who was a well-read prince but became deeply perturbed by the sights of old age, sickness, and death, leading him to question the nature of existence. He emphasizes that a Buddha possesses a sharp, curious mind and does not live in the illusion of already knowing everything. Compassion is another central trait, where the life of an innocent being is valued above the laws of the land. Acharya Prashant highlights that a Buddha is detached from worldly attractions such as money, power, and familial bondages, placing realization above pleasure. This detachment is coupled with an unending desire for ultimate knowledge and complete inner honesty, refusing to stop at lazy conclusions or personal enlightenment. A Buddha does not keep knowledge to himself but shares it out of compassion, recognizing that personal realization alone is a selfish act. In the modern context, a Buddha would use current technologies rather than walking barefoot or living in jungles to spread his message. Acharya Prashant notes that Gautam Buddha was a practical man who raised a sophisticated organization, the Sangha, to cleanse and propagate the true essence of religion when it had become corrupted. Today, the world needs many such individuals, especially young people, who possess the courage to challenge corrupted traditions and work toward the compassionate objective of saving others from suffering.
