Acharya Prashant explains that the loss of excitement in life is often misunderstood. Referring to the Buddhist monk Nagarjuna and his text Shunyta Saptati, he uses the analogy of an itch. While scratching an itch provides pleasure, the higher state is not having the itch at all. People often mistake excitement for happiness, but excitement is merely a reaction to a prior state of boredom or suffering. Excitement is active and gross, making it easy to remember, whereas boredom is passive and constant, making it go unnoticed. When boredom leaves, excitement naturally vanishes as well, which is a state of health, not a loss.
