Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human beings often live like automatic machines without consciousness. He compares human reactions to a light bulb turning on instantly or a voice-operated phone responding to commands. Just as a machine reacts to a button, humans react automatically to external stimuli, such as getting angry when insulted or feeling excitement upon seeing something desirable. He references Ivan Pavlov's experiment with dogs to illustrate how conditioning creates automatic responses where consciousness is absent, leading people to act without understanding their own behavior. He describes the human system as having two ends. On one end, we are highly efficient but dead machines, where movements are pre-programmed and lack life. Living at this mechanical end leads to a life of regret and restlessness. On the other end, there is complete independence where no programming can exist. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that it is an individual's choice to decide which end to live from. While the path of independence offers no conventional security, the very need for security disappears because the thought of being insecure no longer arises. Finally, he points out that the search for security only exists as long as one feels insecure. He notes that humans are inherently insecure at all times, as anything could happen, such as a natural disaster or a hidden illness. We are only able to sit peacefully because we are currently ignoring these possibilities. If one were to constantly think about all potential dangers, it would become impossible to function. He suggests that true peace comes from moving beyond the mechanical state of constant security-seeking.
