Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the questioner's search for new relationships and employment after leaving a long-term relationship and a government job. He explains that most people seek relationships out of a sense of incompleteness, loneliness, or a void. This leads to a cycle where individuals move from one failed connection to another, or even to material objects, in a futile attempt to feel whole. He describes many long-term relationships as being like "furniture"—having form and weight but no life or growth. This cycle persists because an incomplete person uses their flawed intellect to try to cure their own incompleteness, which inevitably leads to further incomplete outcomes. He suggests that the solution lies in questioning the very feeling of being incomplete rather than seeking external fixes. Spirituality, or the science of self-reliance known as Advaita, teaches that the individual is inherently whole. True relationships are rare and are not based on mutual dependency or the promise of completing one another. Instead, a genuine relationship is one where both individuals are free and support each other's liberation. In such a bond, there is no "necessity" or selfish motive; the connection exists simply because both are already whole and choose to be together in freedom. Regarding work, Acharya Prashant links the nature of one's job to the quality of their personal life. He observes that many people endure stressful jobs simply to provide the "fuel" for a superficial or unhappy home life. If a relationship is based on financial security rather than truth, the individual becomes a slave to their employment. He encourages seeking "right work" that brings a sense of inner fullness rather than just material gain. Finally, he emphasizes that spiritual progress depends on individual effort. While divine grace is constant like rain, it is the individual's responsibility to remove the "umbrella" of their own resistance and make a sincere effort.
