Description

Acharya Prashant addresses the concept of the Root Chakra (Muladhar Chakra) from Kundalini Yoga. He clarifies that it is not a physical or bodily chakra, despite its depiction in images as being located below the navel and above the genitals. This representation should not be taken literally. The Root Chakra is a symbol of our natural and animalistic reality. It is considered the first chakra because everyone is born from and within nature, which forms the fundamental basis (Mool-Aadhar) of our physical, bodily, and earthly existence. He explains that for an individual who has not spiritually evolved, the Root Chakra remains the center of their life. He emphasizes that for the vast majority of people, life is governed by the Root Chakra, meaning their actions are driven by natural and animalistic instincts. Even seemingly lofty pursuits, like business or politics, are often rooted in these base instincts. These instincts include intoxication, delusion, jealousy, lust, anger, fear, and the entire illusion (Maya), which he equates with Nature (Prakriti). Acharya Prashant states that all these qualities (Gunas), which spirituality considers flaws or defects (Dosha/Vikar), are natural and animalistic, found in animals and present in humans from birth without any training. For example, lust arises naturally at a certain age. These natural and animalistic traits are all related to the Root Chakra, which represents the foundation, and also the lowest point, of our existence. He clarifies that in this context, 'Mool' (root) refers to the physical root, not the Self (Atma), and 'Aadhar' (base) refers to the lowest base, not the ultimate Truth. The human birth is an opportunity to rise above this base level of consciousness. Kundalini Yoga's path of ascending through the chakras symbolizes this elevation of consciousness, with the final chakra leading to liberation (Mukti). The journey begins when one recognizes that their actions are not their own but are driven by the "jungle and animal" within. Deceiving oneself by giving respectable names to animalistic pursuits, such as calling greed "politics for national upliftment," prevents this journey from ever starting. The awakening of Kundalini begins the moment one clearly sees the animalistic nature of their actions.
