Acharya Prashant explains that according to Shri Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, the distinction between the insentient and the sentient is false. He clarifies that what we call consciousness is actually a subtle form of matter, as it is entirely dependent on the physical brain. If the brain is injured, consciousness vanishes, proving its material nature. This dependency is the cause of human suffering because consciousness, being material, can only perceive matter, yet it remains perpetually unsatisfied by it. True liberation, or becoming 'videh', involves breaking this identification with the body and the mind's processes, such as thoughts, emotions, and memory. Only one who has transcended body-consciousness can truly claim to be sentient; otherwise, humans are as mechanical and reactive as stones or water.
