Description

Acharya Prashant explains the concept of an 'Avadhut' as one whose mind is completely clear of the dust and smoke of ignorance. He describes the world as a collection of material objects perceived through the senses, where every relationship is essentially a material bond between bodies. The fundamental relationship in this world is that of man and woman, which he characterizes as a meeting of two incomplete entities driven by chemical reactions and egoistic needs rather than consciousness. He notes that the male ego seeks to conquer and expand due to a fear of not attaining, while the female ego seeks to possess and protect due to a fear of loss. These tendencies manifest as aggression in men and jealousy or attachment in women. The speaker clarifies that these 'male' and 'female' traits exist within every individual regardless of gender. He defines the male aspect as the desire to acquire what is missing and the female aspect as the fear of losing what is already possessed. An Avadhut recognizes that a world built on such unconsciousness and fear cannot offer true love or peace. True love is not a meeting of bodies or a dependence on another person; it is an internal state of oneness with one's own source. It is the return of the restless mind to its original home where it finds stillness. Acharya Prashant further explains that the world operates on the interplay of lust and the fear of death. He critiques the common expectation that two incomplete, 'beggarly' individuals can create a sense of completeness or 'wealth' through union, calling it a ridiculous hope. Renunciation, or Sannyas, is defined not as a ritualistic sacrifice but as the simple act of being conscious enough to drop foolishness and suffering. Just as one would naturally drop a hot coal, an Avadhut leaves behind the madness of unconscious living to reside in the light of understanding and true consciousness.
