Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the current global systems—including political, educational, and social institutions—are built on animalistic tendencies rather than consciousness or compassion. These institutions lack high ideals; for instance, education focuses on employment rather than liberation, and politics seeks power rather than the establishment of higher values. Unlike animals, whose desires are limited by nature, human desire for consumption is limitless, leading to the exploitation of others and the concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a tiny elite. The majority of the population is treated as laborers whose efforts primarily benefit those at the top. He highlights the role of the media as a tool to keep the masses unconscious and distracted. Instead of delivering truth, the media provides entertainment opium through comedy, celebrity gossip, and sensationalism to prevent people from recognizing their exploitation. This intoxication ensures that the public remains refreshed enough to continue their labor without rebelling. Real crises, such as climate change, mass animal deaths, and geopolitical threats, are ignored in favor of trivial stories that capture attention but lack substance. Social media algorithms further this by promoting low-quality content to maximize engagement for advertisers. Acharya Prashant further discusses how the middle class is controlled through the concept of respectability, which acts as a leash to prevent dissent. He asserts that self-ignorance is the root of this collective intoxication, and spiritual realization is the only cure. He clarifies that true enlightenment and compassion are inseparable; a realized person works to alleviate the suffering of others even while knowing the world's illusory nature. He cautions against speculating about the state of liberation from a state of ignorance, urging individuals to focus on their current condition and seek awareness to break free from the cycle of exploitation.
