Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the demons' army represents our inner tendencies (vrittis). The manifestation of the Goddess (Devi) signifies freeing our inner virtues from the burden of protecting the ego. He states that all the goodness and virtues within us should be relieved of the burden of being used to protect our ego. For instance, intelligence (buddhi) is a form of the Goddess, a form of divinity. The responsibility for intelligence to protect your ego should be completely removed. The use of intelligence can be for two things: for the protection of the ego or for the practice or search of Truth. Similarly, if you have patience (dhairya), you must completely remove the duty from it to be used to save your 'sand effigy' (ego). Whatever you possess, give it only one duty: to campaign for the victory of Dharma, consciousness, and Truth. This is how the Goddess manifests. All the gods integrated their powers, and the Goddess appeared. They declared that their individual existence did not need their power for protection; instead, they were offering their highest power for an impersonal campaign. When we become a small thing and our work becomes a great thing, we remove the responsibility from all our powers to protect our 'sand effigy'. We assign all our powers a single responsibility. Our knowledge is no longer tasked with saving our ego; its only responsibility is to advance Dharma. Our strength is no longer for our ego; its responsibility is to be employed in the service of Truth. When you deploy all your powers for this one goal, the Goddess is born. Fundamentally, the protection of Dharma is about conquering these inner tendencies. However, what is inside is also related to what is outside. If an unrighteous person is dominating you and forcing you to commit unrighteous acts, you must first kill the inner greed or fear that makes you bow down. But killing the inner demon alone is not enough, as the external unrighteous person will then force others to be unrighteous. Therefore, along with the inner demon, the outer demon must also be destroyed, though the inner one is the first priority.
