Description

Acharya Prashant explains that man bows down to only two things: fear or beauty. He states that today, the world has neither of these. There is very little to be afraid of, as even if the Earth is being destroyed, man believes he can colonize another planet. There is also very little beauty to be seen. Consequently, man is not kneeling or bowing down today. Instead, man has become the de facto God in his own eyes. He is determining when a person is born, what they will look like, their gender, and is even about to determine their death. The speaker suggests that very soon, natural death will become impossible, leaving no space for God. The speaker argues that all the historical and usual reasons for the existence of God are now null and void. Previously, unexplained phenomena in the physical world were attributed to God, but now almost everything is scientifically explained, so God is discounted. Similarly, saints used to talk about death to remind people of God, but now death is no longer a big scare, so God is out. All the historical reasons that pushed man towards God are no longer valid. However, there is still a very strong, fundamental, and genuine reason that remains valid, which is an inner reason. He elaborates that the history of religion shows that most people have not gone towards God because of inner reasons, but because of outer reasons such as the loss of a loved one, poverty, or unexplained physical phenomena. These external factors have been the primary drivers for people to turn to spirituality or religion. Now that those external things are no longer happening, the external reasons to go towards God are no more. The internal reason, which has historically been powerful enough for only a tiny fraction of people, is all that remains. The current situation is described as peculiar and twofold. The external reasons for religion are not strong today, but the internal reason is doubly strong. Traditional religion is failing because it still tries to attract people based on these outdated external factors. Today's spiritual teacher must speak purely of the inner reason. This inner reason is consciousness itself, which is a great desperation, a crying need, a longing, and a squirming wail. The only reason today to go towards truth, God, or peace is the agitation of the mind.
