Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the ego is a force of attraction that seeks to find something beyond itself within its own limited dimension. This search is futile because the ego's world cannot contain the 'beyondness' it craves. The ego is inherently selfish and resistant to its own dissolution, often equating its suffering with life itself. Consequently, the ego views the end of suffering as a threat of death and will go to great lengths to maintain its suffering self. While spiritual practice (sadhana) requires an investment, the price of remaining in suffering is far higher, yet individuals often choose to invest their sweat and blood to ensure their suffering continues. He distinguishes between worldly love and real love, stating that what is commonly called love is actually a vicious instrument of bondage and suffering. Worldly love is centered on body identification, which Acharya Prashant describes as the 'mother lock' that keeps the door to liberation shut. All other bodily relationships and lust are 'kiddo locks' designed to protect this central identification. This form of love is a calculated conspiracy against oneself to ensure that the door to liberation is never blasted open. He warns that worldly love is the primary reason for a person's spiritual fall, as it acts as a ploy to keep one loveless and distant from real, transformative love.
