Acharya Prashant explains that to consider time as truth means to call everything that comes in time and goes away in time as truth. This would mean that all substances are truth. The problem with this is, what a helpless truth it is that dies. The question of death proves all our truths to be false. Those who have spoken the word 'truth' have given it the highest possible definition. They said that anything below that, we will not consider as truth. And their definition of truth was, 'Truth is that which does not die.' Whatever dies, we do not consider it truth. Now, whatever things you associate with time, they come in time and go away in time. Do you see anything around you that is immortal? Is there anything even in your imagination that is immortal? No. Truth, because it is the highest of the high, the most beautiful, the most real, is therefore considered to be only that which will not deceive, which will not disappear in the blink of an eye. The duration of the blink of an eye can be anything, it could be thousands of years. It depends on whose eyelid it is. So, that which disappears in the blink of an eye, that which is here today and gone tomorrow, do you consider that truth? From your own experience, you would call that an illusion, a deception. It appeared, and then when you looked for it, it was not found. It seemed to be, and when you believed in it, you were deceived. Would you call something like that truth? Therefore, whatever is in time is not considered truth. That is why the world and time are both considered shadows of truth, extensions of truth, but they have not been given the status of truth directly. It must have been a very strong mind that gave such a strict, or rather, such a narrow definition of truth. By narrow, I mean a definition on whose touchstone nothing would stand. As Kabir says, the path of God is like the edge of a sword. It is as narrow as the edge of a sword. What he means by narrow is that on that touchstone, nothing from your mind will stand. The path of love is very narrow, two cannot fit in it. 'Two' means duality. All thought is in duality, so whatever you have thought can never be truth. All thought is in duality, so what is thought can never be truth. There is barely enough space for one, one cannot even walk, how will two walk? So, if you are a light person, if you are a compromiser, you will say, 'It's okay, seasons change, we still consider them truth.' 'It's okay, love was there today, it's not there tomorrow, we still consider it truth.' But there is another kind of mind, a stubborn one, which does not compromise for anything less than the whole. It says, 'I will take the whole thing.' Our demand is for the whole. Either give something that will never be destroyed, give something that is immortal, otherwise, what you are giving is of no use to me. In fact, it will only increase my suffering because I will know that it can be gone any day. I will live day and night with the apprehension of when that which I have considered truth will be destroyed. We will not get attached to anyone whose departure is a possibility. We will not consider that as truth which can leave our side. Truth is only that which is, and when you find something that is, that cannot go away, then you find peace. Then you say, 'Now I can sleep, because what I have found cannot be lost.' And as long as what you have found can be lost, you will keep guarding it. And despite all your guarding, one day it will disappear. You will wake up and find it gone. Truth is not for those who entertain themselves with toys. Truth is not for those who are satisfied with flimsy excuses. It is for those who say, 'Either the whole thing, or I don't want it.' The one who says, 'I don't want it,' gets it. The one who says, 'Okay, bring it,'...
