Description

Acharya Prashant explains a couplet by Kabir Saheb: "When Kabir was born, the world laughed, and we cried. Do such deeds that when you leave, you laugh, and the world cries." He challenges the common belief that a person is born into a pre-existing world. Instead, he posits that the world itself is born with the birth of a child. The world that laughs is the man-made world of society, relationships, and business. This world is happy because its game continues, and it needs foolish people, those who are products of time and identify with the body, to run. For the individual being born, it is a state of suffering; it would have been better not to be born. The birth of a person is the birth of the ego, of body-identification, and of ignorance. Explaining the second line, Acharya Prashant clarifies that it is not a lesson in cruelty. It means that when one acts with understanding, it disrupts the world's dance of foolishness, causing the world—society and relatives—to cry. This crying is necessary for them, as it is a sign that their foolishness is being challenged. Their pain stems from their own ignorance and karma, so one should not feel guilty. The emotional traps, like the tears of relatives, are a part of Maya's scheme to stop the seeker. One should not be swayed by them. He concludes that the path of Truth will inevitably cause the world of illusion to cry, which is a good thing as it signifies their purification. The awakened one laughs because they are free from the illusion. The world is a test, and one must pass it. The world runs on compulsions, and every compulsion is false. When you awaken, you become a great danger to this unconscious system. The sun has risen within you, and you are a danger to the darkness. Do not forget that this suffering is auspicious because the world is inherently in suffering. The definition of the world is that which runs on the energy of suffering, whose engine is unconsciousness and restlessness.
