Description

Acharya Prashant explains that thought itself is not the problem; rather, the issue lies in the divided center from which thought arises. He clarifies that thought and consciousness are inseparable in a bodily being, and it is impossible to operate with zero thought as long as brain activity exists. The speaker emphasizes that thought is an evolutionary tool well-suited for dealing with material objects and practical survival, such as measurement, forecasting, and communication. However, a conflict arises when one attempts to use thought to achieve internal completion or spiritual fulfillment, which are beyond its capacity. He further explains that thought is material and can effectively manipulate material things, but it cannot deliver understanding, love, or liberation. When thought is misused to seek the 'beyond' or total satisfaction, it becomes never-ending and leads to neurosis or frustration. Acharya Prashant suggests that instead of chasing a state of thoughtlessness, one should understand the legitimate, limited function of the brain. He concludes that right thought, arising from a center of goodness, is self-limiting and purposeful, whereas misplaced expectations from thought lead to endless cycles of wandering and mental distress.
