Acharya Prashant explains the relationship between the individual and the world by using the metaphor of a swimmer crossing a river. He interprets the teachings of Jesus and Ashtavakra, noting that while the world is often seen as a place of potential drowning or death, it also possesses a hidden utility. The world is not an end in itself but a medium to be used for crossing over to the other shore. Loving the world in the way Jesus warns against is akin to being captivated by the sensory beauty of the water and forgetting the necessity of swimming, which inevitably leads to drowning. One must not attempt to settle or build a home in the middle of the stream, as the world does not offer a permanent residence. He further describes the world as a tricky entity that offers resistance, much like water. This resistance is what allows a swimmer to propel themselves forward; without the water's buoyancy and the swimmer's own exertion, crossing would be impossible. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that while human effort is necessary, it is not sufficient on its own, just as swimming motions fail in the air. Godliness or the Guru acts as a silent helper within the world, rewarding sincere effort and carrying the individual to safety. The right way to engage with the world is to look for the reality and essence hidden beneath the surface, utilizing the world like a traveler uses a road to reach a destination without ever trying to settle upon it.
