Description

Acharya Prashant explains that in America, Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) has followed Saraswati (goddess of knowledge), whereas India thinks it can achieve prosperity without knowledge. He states that we have gone completely mad. The most knowledgeable country is America, which is why it is where it is today. If you don't become knowledgeable, you will become a rustic or someone who relies on makeshift solutions. He contrasts the West's preservation of their rivers, forests, and biodiversity with India's treatment of its mountains, citing the examples of Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Shimla. He points out that in the West, they have preserved their natural wealth with great care, while in India, the focus is on exploiting nature to fill pockets. This is what we teach our youth: to fill their pockets by any means, even by cutting down forests, as seen in Hasdeo. Responding to a question about social media influencers devaluing education, Acharya Prashant asserts that the root cause is not the youth but the society that does not give respect, importance, or value to knowledge. He illustrates this by noting that even 40 years ago, people preferred B.Tech over B.Sc. because it was a professional, vocational education that promised money. The question has always been which education will bring money, not about the education itself. The value of a B.Tech degree is judged by the placement package, not the knowledge gained. Science is the mother, and technology is its child, sometimes a mischievous one. Without science, technology cannot exist, yet a B.Sc. has no value while a B.Tech is highly valued because society respects money. He further explains that from childhood, the purpose of education is presented as earning money. The child is conditioned to believe this by the entire environment. If the goal is to earn money, and it can be achieved without studying, then why study? He contrasts this with America, which he says is ahead because of its knowledge. There, wealth and Lakshmi have followed knowledge and Saraswati. He argues that India is not a knowledge-based society, especially in North India, citing the low number of public libraries in Uttar Pradesh compared to Kerala or West Bengal. He concludes that our startups are 'jugaad-based' (based on makeshift solutions), whereas theirs are knowledge-based. He advises instilling a respect for knowledge in children, as prosperity will follow.
