Acharya Prashant explains that one who, instead of looking directly at the straightforward causes of their own misfortune, is engaged in things like rosaries, rings, horoscopes, almanacs, and Vastu, has no possibility of spiritual progress. He questions if the sages of the Upanishads or the Buddha have ever been seen wearing rings in their pictures, pointing out that they are not depicted with five or six rings hanging from their hands. He states that if you find a person wearing ten or twelve rings, several necklaces, and has pierced their ears, nose, and even teeth, you should know that this poor person is living in deep internal distress. The person who runs to astrologers, palm readers, or has their forehead read, is doing so because they are not ready to see what is straightforward. The meaning of all this is that they are not prepared to see the simple truth, and instead, they can show their mouth, teeth, and eyes to anyone else. To know the Truth, one must look within the 'ghat' (the body and the world, all of materiality). He quotes Sant Kabir, "Your Lord resides in every being." 'Ghat' refers to any vessel or anything bound by limits, which includes this body and this world. The revelation of facts is found only in the observation of the world and the self. This revelation of facts means freedom from beliefs, which is liberation. If you do not know this, then this 'ghat' is a prison and bondage. The fulfillment of love is so easy; it is to see what is visible and to hear what is audible. That is how simple spirituality is. But even after this, if you are unable to do it, then with what right are you speaking harsh words? We don't see what is visible. We don't see things as they are; we imagine them. The moment you see something, a name from your memory jumps up, and you no longer see the thing itself, but the name and its associated meanings dance before you. Language is a big culprit. You see a person, and your eyes say 'woman'. The moment the word 'woman' comes, all your beliefs, experiences, and desires associated with it will jump up and start dancing in front of you. You will no longer see the person. The spiritual person is one who is very aware. The one who has awareness instead of charms and spells can be anything, but not spiritual. The first sign of becoming spiritual is that your beliefs about yourself will break, and the superstitions you have about the world will end.
