Description

Acharya Prashant explains the Indian concept of the law of karma and rebirth, emphasizing that the core of this principle is responsibility. He asserts that humans are fundamentally free beings, and because of this freedom, they are responsible for their choices and the resulting consequences. If one were merely a puppet of fate or a higher power, the concept of karma would be baseless. Our inherent desire for freedom in daily life, such as the right to choose, reflects our true nature of liberation. However, the human predicament is that despite being free, we often use that freedom to choose bondage rather than liberation. He warns that we must not use the rights granted by the supreme freedom against that very source of freedom. Regarding the story of Shri Jadabharat, Acharya Prashant clarifies that there is no disproportionate punishment; the law of karma is perfectly balanced. Shri Jadabharat's attachment to a deer led to his rebirth as one, illustrating that we become what we are attached to in the present moment. Our current identity is merely a reflection of our attachments. He further explains that the fear of worldly association mentioned by Shri Jadabharat is a necessary spiritual trait. This fear is not of God, but of one's own current state of bondage. He argues that true spirituality begins with an honest recognition of one's suffering and a healthy fear of remaining in that state, rather than pretending to be in a state of joy or love while still being spiritually ill.
