Description

Acharya Prashant explains that when you see someone and say you have fallen in love, especially in the case of 'love at first sight', you have not actually seen their qualities. He questions whether, in that first glance, one has assessed the other person's attitude towards nature and spirituality, their understanding of life and the mind, their perspective on the environment, or their levels of compassion, tolerance, and awareness. He asserts that none of these things are perceived in the first sight. He clarifies that the eyes only see the body. When you see a girl, your sight perceives her body, and you claim to have fallen in love. The speaker calls this a great misfortune that will lead to trouble because a connection is formed without knowing or examining the person, which is bound to cause problems. He notes that young people, in particular, have a strong urge to appear attractive and strong, using certain mannerisms to attract others. He likens this to the behavior of animals, such as a peacock spreading its feathers to dance before a peahen. This behavior, he states, is what animals do and it shows that you have only known life on the surface, and the surface of life is the body. Anyone who does not know life beyond the body is living superficially. He explains that on the surface, one does not find gold, silver, diamonds, or pearls; one must dig even for water. Therefore, those who live on the surface of life will be deprived of life's true wealth and riches. It is not that they will die; they might live for 80 or 100 years, but they will remain like beggars from within, lacking inner wealth. These, he concludes, are the negative consequences of body-consciousness.
