Description

Acharya Prashant explains that we are all born with a hunger, a need to fill our lives with something. The mind needs something to think about, and the hands need something to do. No one's life is empty; everyone has filled it with something. The crucial question is, with what have we filled it? Whatever you choose to fill your life with becomes your life, your entire story, your horoscope, and your destiny. There is nothing more important than knowing what we have filled our lives with and that our choice is involved in it. Acharya Prashant points out that things do not just happen to come into our lives; they enter with our permission. He addresses the questioner's situation, where he studied for a job he dislikes, and now that job is being used to pay off a large loan taken for his sister's wedding. These two events are interconnected. The education was for the job, and the job is now a means to repay the debt. This has become the questioner's story, a trap he created for himself. Now, he doesn't want to do the job, but because of the loan, he is compelled to continue. This is the story of every common person who makes decisions without thinking about their long-term consequences. We give space to anything in our lives, and that thing then shapes our future. People justify this blindness with phrases like "live in the present," but the consequences of present actions, like taking a loan, must be faced in the future. Life energy is dynamic and must move in a direction, either upwards or downwards. If not consciously directed towards a higher purpose, it will, by default, move towards a lower, destructive path. The mind cannot remain empty; if not occupied with higher thoughts, it will be filled with trivialities. The only way to identify and remove the frivolous from life is to bring in something truly necessary and of a higher purpose. In fact, a frivolous thing is recognized as frivolous only when a higher thing enters one's life; otherwise, frivolous things like extravagant weddings seem important. Acharya Prashant advises dedicating oneself completely—with mind, body, and wealth—to a clear, tangible, higher goal. This dedication provides the strength to make difficult decisions, such as quickly paying off debts and moving forward in a meaningful direction. Without such a higher mission, life becomes a cycle of waste. He urges the questioner to adopt a higher goal, not just with the mind, but with the body and wealth as well. This will give him the strength to take firm steps, pay off the loan, and move forward in the right direction in life.
