Description

Acharya Prashant explains that living in constant fear of future illness or death ruins the present life. He argues that if a disease requires an impossible amount of money to treat, it is better to accept death than to live a life burdened by debt and slavery. He questions why people are so attached to a 'dead' or miserable life and why they fear death so much. He points out that many have lived short but meaningful lives, while others live long lives in suffering. True friendship, he notes, is based on love rather than business-like transactions of debt and repayment. If someone helps out of love, one should accept it without the stress of calculation. He emphasizes that death is only terrifying for those who are not living correctly. All fears, whether of insults or small creatures, are ultimately rooted in the fear of death. This fear persists because life is being wasted instead of being directed toward its ultimate goal: liberation. Acharya Prashant compares life to a railway platform; its only purpose is to help one catch the 'train' of liberation. Staying on the platform for a hundred years without catching the train is meaningless. He suggests that a short, meaningful life is far superior to a long, miserable one. Finally, he advises that the goal of life is not its length but its liberation from the fundamental suffering of existence. He critiques the common blessing of 'long life,' suggesting it can be a curse if it only means more years of suffering. Instead, one should seek to resolve the core sorrow of being and attain freedom. Once a person is ready for death and has achieved the purpose of life, they become fearless. He encourages living in a way that one is always ready for the end, focusing on the quality and purpose of existence rather than its mere duration.
