Description

Acharya Prashant narrates the story of Prince Hemchud and his wife Hemlekha from the teachings of Dattatreya. Hemlekha, raised in a hermitage by a wise sage, is an enlightened woman who remains indifferent to worldly and sensual pleasures after marriage. Hemchud, recognizing her divine nature, demonstrates his eligibility as a student by bowing to her and seeking her guidance. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that it requires a special kind of inner power and the absence of ego for a man to accept his wife as a spiritual teacher. Hemlekha’s first instruction to her husband is to abandon 'kutarka' or wrong reasoning, as arguments are often defenses raised by the ego to resist the truth. She explains that true listening requires deep attention and devotion without any underlying motives. Hemlekha teaches that the Supreme Lord is the formless maker of creation, yet can assume various forms like Vishnu or Shiva for those with a gross intellect. She advises Hemchud to worship the ultimate reality in the form of Goddess Tripura, as he is not yet refined enough to grasp the formless. Acharya Prashant highlights that Hemchud follows his wife's instructions for months without questioning, which is the mark of a true seeker. In spiritual matters, conviction often follows action rather than preceding it. Only after a period of sustained, one-pointed devotion does Hemchud return with authentic questions about the nature of supreme consciousness and the self. Hemlekha then guides him to investigate his own self with an extremely purified intellect, looking for that which is not a visible object.
