Description

Acharya Prashant explains that human beings are creatures that live in time, hope, and the future, categorizing dreams and hopes into two distinct kinds. The first kind of dream is the common desire for self-improvement or betterment in the future, driven by the feeling that one is not currently alright. This type of desire is habitual and logical, existing within the cycle of cause and effect where one desire leads to another, fueling the ego's momentum to continue its existence. The second kind of dream is the desire to end all desires, which is the essence of spirituality. This is the dream that wakes one up, and it can only occur when one is in contact with their inner awakening. This unique desire, classically called mumukshatva, is the desire for liberation and does not belong to the same dimension as ordinary desires. Acharya Prashant further clarifies that the ending of all desires does not lead to a dull or vapid life; rather, it means living in such fulfillment that desires no longer hold significant weight. In this state of contentment, one is free to act, succeed, or fail without being bound by the outcome. He describes this second kind of desire as a blessing or grace that is always available and unconditional. While grace falls equally upon everyone, much like rain falls on both living and dead trees, 'sin' is defined as the ego's determination or incapacity to accept and absorb this grace. Therefore, while the status of an individual does not change in the eyes of the Total, the sinner is one who refuses the grace that is constantly being offered.
