Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the quality of any religious act depends entirely on the consciousness and clarity of the doer. If one does not understand the essence of Shiva or the meaning of spiritual awakening, then rituals, pilgrimages, and external displays like the Kanwar Yatra remain mere symbols without benefit. He emphasizes that the sole purpose of pure religion and spirituality is the cleansing of the mind and liberation from suffering, confusion, and bondage. When religion is reduced to identity, tradition, or external symbols like tilaks and specific attire, it loses its transformative power. The speaker asserts that Shiva represents the ultimate truth where the mind is free from impurities and worldly attachments, and one can only truly claim closeness to Shiva after negating identification with the body, mind, and senses. He critiques the modern trend of turning religious events into entertainment, involving loud music, intoxicants, and vulgar depictions of deities, which he views as an insult to spirituality rather than a mark of devotion. Acharya Prashant points out that throughout history, great saints like Kabir Saheb, Guru Nanak Dev, and Adi Shankaracharya had to work towards purifying religion because human ignorance repeatedly corrupts it. He warns that when religion becomes a tool for the 'worthless' to gain unearned power and respect without undergoing internal change, it devolves into hooliganism. He concludes by stating that pure religion is humanity's last hope for survival in an era of potential destruction, and it must not be corrupted into a form of intoxication or ego-fulfillment.
