Description

Acharya Prashant explains the fundamental difference between the freedom of the ego and freedom for the ego. He clarifies that the ego often seeks freedom to pursue its own likes and desires, such as eating a pizza, which only serves to strengthen and expand the ego. In contrast, true spirituality is about seeking freedom from the ego itself, where one chooses that which leads to the ego's dissolution. He emphasizes that while people are often attracted to things that inflate their ego, they are also naturally drawn to figures like saints and prophets who represent liberation. He warns that choosing an idol based on personal preference or worldly excellence, such as a cricketer or a scientist, may lead to skill in those specific fields but will not result in spiritual liberation. He further discusses that excellence in arts, science, or sports does not equate to spiritual progress. A scientist may understand the external world of objects but remains ignorant of the self, the subject. Acharya Prashant asserts that no art or skill can make a person spiritual; rather, if a person is spiritual, their art will naturally reflect that depth. He criticizes the modern obsession with 'personal interest' and 'doing what one likes,' arguing that what people call their 'own choice' is actually a product of social conditioning and mental impressions. He concludes that the only true religion remaining today is the worship of one's own will, which is a path of ignorance. True spirituality requires following the path of liberation and wisdom, regardless of personal likes or dislikes.
