Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the common notion of friendship between a boy and a girl is often misunderstood because it is compared to the dynamics of same-sex friendships. He asserts that gender identity is an inherent indicator of one's physical and mental makeup, and it is impractical to ignore this reality. Men and women have different physical and psychological structures, which naturally influence their behavior and interactions. For instance, the rough and tumble friendship common among boys is a manifestation of their specific sexuality and testosterone, just as the more composed interactions among girls reflect theirs. Therefore, a friendship between a boy and a girl will inevitably have a unique chemistry that differs from same-sex friendships. He further clarifies that almost all human activities, from eating to how one maintains a room, are influenced by one's sexuality and nature. This is not something to be ashamed of or viewed as 'dirty,' as it is a fundamental law of nature. In the spiritual context, everything arising from nature is considered sexual. While consciousness seeks liberation from all identities, including gender, it remains dependent on the body to function in the world. Therefore, any interaction between a boy and a girl will always have a sexual dimension, whether hidden or apparent. This is a natural biological reality that should be acknowledged without hypocrisy. Acharya Prashant suggests that since one cannot escape this natural pull, the focus should be on 'selection' and 'channelization.' One should choose companions who, despite the natural sexual dimension of the relationship, help lead each other toward higher consciousness and freedom from bodily identification. He cites the example of Shri Krishna and Mirabai, noting that while Mirabai viewed Shri Krishna as her husband, her choice was directed toward the highest possible level of being. Ultimately, the goal is to use natural relationships as a medium to transcend nature itself, requiring great discipline, awareness, and wise selection of company.
