Description

Acharya Prashant explains that a pure mind is one that is free from alien elements, meaning it is devoid of thoughts and desires. He clarifies that purity is not about having 'good' or 'moral' thoughts, but rather the absence of any thought at all. Just as mixing pure oil with pure water results in an impure mixture because they are of different natures, any thought in the mind—whether positive or negative—is an impurity. He asserts that spirituality does not distinguish between good and bad thoughts; that distinction belongs to morality. Spirituality recognizes that any thought creates disturbance and indicates a lack of peace. He emphasizes that thoughts are born from problems and desires, not from love or natural well-being. When one is in a state of love or सहज (natural) flow, thinking becomes unnecessary. Acharya Prashant further argues that our reliance on thought is a sign of a diseased state. He compares thoughts and the products of intellect, like medicines and machines, to robotic crutches for a person who has lost the ability to walk. While these tools are useful once one is 'lame,' they are not the natural or healthy state of being. He points out that the mind's true nature is silence and stillness, and constant thinking is a burden imposed from the outside through social conditioning and insecurity. He challenges the notion that constant remembrance or chanting is necessary for spiritual connection, stating that true silence is beyond words and effort. Ultimately, he suggests that the intellect is a load on the system, and the relief we find in deep, dreamless sleep proves that the mind is most at home when it is not thinking.
