Acharya Prashant explains that from all sides, the message constantly given to you is that you are insufficient. The family says, 'Look at the neighbor, see how high he is, and you are nothing. There is a flaw in you.' The media tells you, 'Your face color is dark, there is a flaw in you, apply this cream.' The cinema tells you, 'You have reached this age and still haven't found a partner, there is a flaw in you. Go and find one.' Education tells you, 'You have scored only this much percentage, there is a flaw in you. Go and increase your percentage.' This is the water you are drinking, and you have considered this water to be nectar. You think that those who tell you to 'become something' are your well-wishers. No, they are your biggest enemies. Because the statement 'become something' first implies that 'I am nothing right now'. He illustrates this with a story of a brave, fearless king who was happy in himself and loved by his friends. The neighboring kingdoms were jealous of him. Often, those who are happy have many people who are jealous of them. They tried hard to defeat him and take his kingdom, but they couldn't spoil his joy. Even when he lost, his joy was unaffected. They were very troubled. So, they called a magician who gave the king some water to drink. Upon drinking it, the king forgot he was a king and started believing he was a beggar. The work that all the world's battles couldn't do, that water did. The king's joy was gone. He wandered around, thinking, 'I am a beggar, I have nothing, give me something.' The man whose joy remained even when everything was lost, now, with everything still his, his joy was gone. He wandered from door to door, asking for food, happiness, and peace. He became a big beggar. That king is you, who, despite being a king, has completely forgotten that you are a king. You have considered yourself a beggar and are afraid that you might lose something more. A beggar will always be afraid because he has so many masters, and he always has a feeling of incompleteness within him, that his hands are empty. Whatever he has to get, he has to get from outside. He will always roam around scared. And a beggar will always be in tension because he doesn't have one master; he has many masters, and different masters can have different wishes, so he will be pulled in different directions. This state of being pulled in fifty directions is called tension. Fear and tension are both signs that magic has been cast upon you, that the idea that you are a beggar has been instilled in you. You have been told that until you become something, you are worthless. These poisonous ideas have been filled in your mind. That is why you roam around scared.
