Acharya Prashant explains that the primary commonality between spirituality and science is an honest urge to know the truth. While science focuses on the external universe through observations, data, and experiments, spirituality focuses on the inner world of the mind. He emphasizes that these two must work in tandem, citing the Upanishads which refer to worldly knowledge as Avidhya and inner knowledge as Vidhya. He notes that a person who attempts to be spiritual without being scientific will suffer even more than a worldly person who lacks spirituality. He highlights that honesty and integrity are the essential values for both scientific and spiritual inquiry. In science, external facts can be recorded and verified by others, but inner states like jealousy or anger cannot be captured by a camera or testified to by others. Therefore, spirituality requires a much higher degree of honesty because it is very easy to deceive oneself about one's own internal state. True spirituality involves inquiring into the origins of one's thoughts, emotions, and fears in the moment they occur, rather than reflecting on them after they have passed.
