Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the root of suffering is not the body itself, but the ego (Aham) which identifies with the body and worldly objects. He describes the ego as being like a gas balloon tied to the ground; its nature is to rise toward the subtle and the infinite (the sky), but it remains tethered to the gross and material world (the earth). This creates a constant state of tension and restlessness. True happiness, or bliss, is found in the subtle heights of consciousness, yet the ego mistakenly seeks it in the grossness of the body and material possessions. He emphasizes that while the body is a medium for both joy and sorrow, using it as the primary tool for seeking ultimate happiness is a fundamental error. He further clarifies that a spiritual person does not reject the world but uses it as a means to transcend it. Just as a wise balloon might descend to untie its knot, an individual must engage with the world to identify and cut the bonds of attachment. Acharya Prashant distinguishes between three levels of relating to others: the physical level (gross), the intellectual level (subtle), and the spiritual level (the core or soul). He urges the listener to prioritize the highest level of connection. He warns against 'pleasure-seeking' (Majakhori), equating it to a patient who goes to a hospital only to eat in the canteen, forgetting their purpose of healing. Life is described not as a picnic or a place for rest, but as a battlefield and a mission where one must work diligently to attain liberation before death.
