Description

Acharya Prashant explains that our reactions to minor annoyances reveal a deeper, hidden frustration. He asks how one reacts to their own sweat, noting that the trickle can be unnerving and is often wiped away with aggression, frustration, and resistance. He equates this to reactions when a car or a wife does not behave properly, calling these telltale signs of hidden frustration. He illustrates this with an example of a child repeatedly touching someone who is trying to concentrate. The reaction escalates from a smile to gently removing the hand, then just removing it, and finally, the 'volcano bursts'. The speaker states that this pretense cannot last long, and the facade of social happiness eventually gives way to the fact of frustration. The solution, he suggests, is to see that you are frustrated, as this will bring true peace. He argues that there is nothing more frustrating than hiding frustration, describing it as a double humiliation. First, one is slapped by frustration, and second, one must smile because they do not dare to admit it. He questions how anyone can be truly joyful under such a double humiliation. He defines frustration as the disappointment of desire, stating there can be no frustration without desire. When you want something and it does not materialize, that situation is called frustration. The acceptance of frustration is a passive act, not a furtherance or active promotion of it. He concludes that unless one's deepest desire is met, life will be frustration. The speaker posits that Truth, or God, is the only 'anti-frustratant' and the only thing that can truly relieve one from frustration.
