Acharya Prashant explains that while the Greek philosopher Heraclitus stated that a man never steps into the same river twice because both the man and the river change, Shri Krishna goes a step further. He clarifies that although the external forms (the river) and the internal desires (the ego) may appear to change, the fundamental act of 'stepping' or repeating the same patterns of ignorance remains constant. The river represents the flow of nature, and the man represents the ego. Maya creates the illusion that each new effort is unique, but whether one jumps into the world for wealth or pleasure, the underlying bondage of the ego remains the same. Spirituality is about stopping this repetitive cycle of suffering rather than just observing the differences in how one suffers.
