Description

Acharya Prashant explains the metaphor of the flower and the blanket to describe the ideal state of the mind. He states that the mind should be like a flower petal, which is so sensitive that it cannot bear any weight. When a drop of dew falls on a flower, it slips off because the flower refuses to carry the burden. In contrast, a blanket absorbs everything that falls on it, becoming heavier and dirtier over time. He emphasizes that burdens such as assumptions, future worries, responsibilities, duties, ambitions, and bondages should not be entertained by the mind. A sensitive mind immediately recognizes when something is pressing down on it or preventing it from being free. While a blanket is durable and long-lasting because it absorbs filth, a flower lives a short but pure and joyful life. He suggests that it is better to live a brief life in one's true nature, remaining clean and light, rather than living a long life filled with accumulated burdens and impurities. The flower would rather perish than live in a state of being soiled, and one should strive for that level of sensitivity and innocence.
