Acharya Prashant explains that the relationship between Shri Krishna and Radha should ideally be understood as being the same as the relationship between Shiv and Shakti. He notes that in popular culture, this bond has been significantly distorted and reduced to the level of ordinary carnal love between a man and a woman. This distortion is possible because, unlike Shakti, who is well-documented in scriptures like the Upanishads and the Durga Saptashati, the character of Radha lacks a strong scriptural foundation. Radha is not mentioned in the Vedas or Upanishads and is scarcely mentioned even in the Shrimad Bhagwat Puran or Harivansh Puran. This absence of scriptural rigidity allowed later generations to use their imagination to create stories that lack spiritual depth. Acharya Prashant emphasizes that the character of Radha deserves great dignity and respect, and the current depictions in media and religious gatherings are often spiritually unedifying. He asserts that their relationship must be viewed with the same spiritual seriousness as that of Shiv and Shakti, rather than being used to justify shallow human romances.
