Description

Acharya Prashant explains that the agenda of prominent freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Bhagat Singh was not limited to merely driving the British away. While political independence was an immediate objective, it was only a starting point for a larger goal of total emancipation. Mahatma Gandhi, for instance, focused on freeing the masses from inner bondages by addressing the caste system, communal amity, and village self-sufficiency. Acharya Prashant highlights that while political activists worked on external liberation, spiritual figures like Ramana Maharshi worked on inner freedom. These two paths are not contradictory but complementary. When an individual realizes their inner freedom as the ever-free soul, they can no longer tolerate external subjugation or bow to an external master. Therefore, spiritual liberation naturally leads to a rejection of external bondages. Both the spiritual teacher and the political activist aim for the same ultimate end: the complete liberation of the individual. There is no real division between the two approaches, as many freedom fighters were deeply spiritual, recognizing that inner freedom is the foundation for resisting external oppression.
