Description

Acharya Prashant addresses a question about the source of courage in revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Ram Prasad Bismil, contrasting it with the cowardice seen in today's youth. He begins by reading an account written by Bhagat Singh about Ram Prasad Bismil's last meeting with his mother. In this account, when Bismil sheds tears, his mother reminds him of his duty to Dharma and the nation, telling him not to show weakness. Acharya Prashant explains that the reason for both courage and cowardice is the 'mother'—both the physical mother and Mother Nature (Prakriti). He elaborates that cowardice is inherent to the body, which is a product of nature and primarily concerned with self-preservation. Valor, on the other hand, is a quality of consciousness and must be learned. The body is not acquainted with valor; its connection is with cowardice, while valor's connection is with consciousness. He criticizes the typical Indian household where a mother's unconditional affection, regardless of her child's actions, fosters cowardice and prevents growth. This is because the child's ego remains intact, and they are not pushed towards self-improvement. Acharya Prashant argues that the ideal of a 'motherly mother' is flawed and has contributed to India's thousand years of slavery by making children weak. He asserts that we need mothers who are like lionesses, not just cows. The mother who gives birth should also be the one who gives liberation. She must teach her children that they are not merely the body and should not fear death. He states that a woman must first be a conscious being, as affection (mamta) and consciousness are opposed. To raise a generation of fearless youth, a generation of awakened parents, especially mothers, is required. The responsibility of a healthy relationship, particularly for those closest to someone, is to be ruthless in guiding them towards truth and not letting them stray.
