Description

Acharya Prashant explains that vulnerability is often misunderstood as a weakness or a state of being defenseless against a hostile world. He clarifies that our perceived need for mental armor and defenses arises from the false belief that the world is separate from us and inherently aggressive. In reality, the self we build lives on a diet of threats, and we only see bullets and arrows because we are determined to wear armor. Vulnerability is not about dropping your guard to get hit; it is the realization that when the armor drops, the bullets also drop because the world has no objective existence independent of our own state of mind. He further elaborates that being hurt is never spontaneous but is always pre-decided. We carry 'pre-hurt' within us, having already declared what specific words or actions from others will offend us. When we feel hurt, it is an indication that we are carrying internal baggage that is susceptible to pain. Acharya Prashant suggests that instead of blaming the person who hurts us, we should look inward to understand why we are carrying such vulnerable material. Vulnerability, therefore, means not pre-deciding our reactions and living without the arrogance of trying to control life. It is a state of relaxation and oneness with existence, much like a leaf dancing in the wind, where the dancer and the wind are one organic unit.
