Description

Acharya Prashant explains that one must always start their spiritual journey from exactly where they are, rather than looking for an ideal starting point. He emphasizes that spirituality is fiercely committed to the self and the quality of one's mind and life. Unlike science or mathematics, which look at the world objectively, spirituality involves looking at the world only as an expression of one's own tendencies or as an entity that defines the self. The focus must remain uninterruptedly on one's own life and mental state. Regarding the verse from the Bhagavad Gita, he clarifies that right actions are those chosen wisely to lead to liberation without leaving any residue. In ordinary life, actions leave residues that necessitate further actions, creating an endless cycle of desire and suffering. However, right actions act like water used for cleaning; they remove the dirt and then disappear themselves, leaving the individual free from both the dirt and the water. This state of having no residue is what it means to be truly jobless and free from the need for a future. Acharya Prashant further defines living in the present as total freedom from obligations and the need for a future, which arises when one no longer feels incomplete. To reach this state, one must perform sacrifice or 'yajna'. While 'dravya yajna' involves giving up material things, 'jnana yajna'—the sacrifice of knowledge—is superior. He concludes that one's own concepts, beliefs, and knowledge about the world are the actual bondages from which one needs freedom.
